Hi, Kate Dachovska here. I would like to share with you my mixed media tutorial for art journal. I had that quote sticker – It`s The Little Things That Make Life Big – for quite a long time in my stash and I had no idea how to use it. But as usual, inspiration comes from unusual places – when I was doing my first gardening after winter, and idea of a background came to me; it is not a complicated project but it needs some time to play with all the mediums.
Materials used for the page:
Canvas Corp The watercing Can: Birds and Bees on Ivory Paper
Canvas Corp Spring showers: Butterflies on Ivory Paper
Scraps of various Canvas Corp Kraft papers
Tattered Angels Simply Sheer – Army Green
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Woven Burlap, Dijon, It`s Brown
Architextures Parchment Rub-On – Grow
white gesso, 3D matte gel, plaster paste, watercolour pencils, art journal block
brush, spatula, stencil, heat tool, paper trimmer, scissors
Apply white gesso all over your art journal page. Dry it with heat tool.
Glue different stripes of paper, make background as you like. Do not cover whole page.
Lightly cover paper stripes with gesso, dry it.
Apply structure paste over your favourite stencil. Just here and there. Dry it.
Apply colours, use any kind of Tattered Angels sprays. I love Glimmer mists and Simple sheer sprays.
Decorate edges of paper stripes with watercolour pencils and lightly use water brush to activate watercolour.
Instead of stamping, use Parchment Rub-on to decorate background. Very lightly cover some of them with white gesso.
Glue different insects and birds over art journal, use 3D matte medium.
With watercolour pencil highlith edges of insect. It is not necessary step but it looks nice.
Make white splatters, glue quote sticker and highlight frame around sticker.
